There are tons of table lamp options on the market and off the market these days. Rather than describe all of the lamps in the world (who would read that much) we have decided to break things down into four categories of table lamps. We did all of that just for you to get a feel for things. No, no need to thank us, just doing our job.
A lamp must also fit the mood of a room and the environment. Each room must have a different from the others depending on the use of the room. A bedroom table lamp cannot be the same as an office table lamp. The colors of the two lamps must differ because one is meant for a cool sleeping mood while the other is meant for a bright office. A bedroom lamp should bear colors that will make a person feel relaxed and hence be able to unwind.
There are two main parts to lamps that can be decorative and they are the base and the lampshade. Although you can have both very decorative, it is better to have one that is plain and the other striking. This will have the most effect on your decorative table lamps and changing the color of the bulb can change the whole feeling in the room altogether. You may be tempted to buy very large table lamps; however, you have to imagine what they will look like on the table they are to be placed on. If they will dwarf the table, you might be better with smaller ones. You need to consider where the lamps are to be put before choosing.
If your home is modern and you are simply not sure what type of contemporary lamp will most suit your home's décor, choose a lamp that is simple yet elegant. Wood, glass, and metallic bases are all great choices and there are many elegant styles available including hourglass shapes, rectangle and tri pod, triangle and round. Use decorative lighting that gives off a soft homey glow for entryways, and dining rooms, and of course that romantic bedroom. If you have a particularly dark corner in a room, then a somewhat brighter light can make the area feel more welcoming and attractive. However, don't choose decorative lighting that makes your home look like an airport runway. Softer light is friendlier and more flattering making everyone feel more comfortable and look more attractive.
When looking at antique lamps remember to not clean them up so much. This is especially true with the brass and sterling lamps. Cleaning them too much devaluates them considerably. On the popular series Antiques Road Show I am always amazed at the person with the 100 year old piece of brass that would have sold for $5,000 but one can of Brass-o later is worth about a buck fifty.
